Nor Aifaa Syazny, who is known among Penang animal rescuers as Coco Chan, had fainted while tending to animals in the centre. SARC owner D.G. Janet, 38 said they were outside the shelter cleaning when they heard the dogs making a lot of noise.

"We went in and found her on the floor, foaming at her mouth," she said.
A friend of the victim, M. Maheswaran, 36, said he last spoke to her at around 10am Sunday.
"She was very frustrated and upset with all the killing going on," he said, referring to the ongoing culling of dogs in Penang to combat the threat of a rabies outbreak.

The girl was admitted to the Penang Hospital and is now conscious but her condition is still unstable.
It is learnt that Nor Aifaa had taken sleeping pills. She is also the founder of Aifaa's Shelter Home Sweet Home, which rescues sick stray cats.
