MAN SLAPS AN IMAM AT NATIONAL MOSQUE DURING FRIDAY PRAYERS

Friday prayers at the National Mosque were interrupted after an Arab-looking man went up to the front and slapped the second imam Mohd Zuhairee Mohd Yatim. It is learnt that Mohd Zuhairee was reciting the surah during prayers when the man walked to the front and pushed him.

When Mohd Zuhairee continued with the prayers unperturbed, the man then grabbed the microphone and slapped imam Mohd Zuhairee Mohd Yatim before taking the imam’s place at the head of the congregation. By then, security staff had rushed into the mosque and apprehended the man before handing him to the police.

Earlier, the Friday prayers at Masjid Negara came to a halt after the incident which took place during the first rakaat.

There was also a slight disturbance outside the mosque when police attempted to escort the suspect out. The man was heard shouting in Arabic as he was escorted out of the premises. The prayer session continued after that.

The Arab looking man detained for slapping the second imam is from Kashmir, India,. According to Dang Wangi district police chief ACP Zainol Samah, the suspect was initially at the second row during the Friday prayers before pushing his way to the front.

He “Based on investigation, the 31-year-old suspect appeared delirious as he was seen talking to himself. “He also claimed to have heard voices asking him to be the imam during the Friday prayers,” Zainol said in a statement today. The suspect was taken to the Tun HS Lee police station to assist in the investigation.

This guy seems to be displaying some signs of schizophrenia. Best to have him checked out before he claims to be the God.
