China Press reported that Suharto Dimjati, 48, suffered a deep slash wound to his left forearm at a surau at Taman Cahaya Baru in Yong Peng, Johor, on Thursday morning.
He was said to be in charge of securing the head of the cow during the slaughtering.
Suharto was rushed to Yong Peng Health Clinic for treatment and later transferred to the Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital due to the seriousness of his injuries.

However, he could not be saved and was pronounced dead upon arrival due to excess blood loss. It was reported that the deceased was tasked to hold the head close to the "Imam" (a religious Muslim head) who was slaughtering the cow. When the cow bucked in the midst of slaughtering process, both the Imam and the victim was thrown back. The dagger used to cut the neck of the cow flew backwards and landed on the victim's arm resulting in the severe blood loss leading to the death.
Results from a post-mortem showed that he died due to the loss of blood from the wound. Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Din Ahmad said the police had classified the case as sudden death.
